I'm truly inspired this morning. Yesterday we had the opportunity to visit the family farm of our new egg supplier, Rhodes Family Farm in Newberry, IN. We wanted to check out their farm and the life the chickens lead, just to see where our eggs were coming from.
Luke Rhodes was a gracious host to myself and a few of our staff. I have included some photos of the chickens' life on the bus. Luke moves the bus around every few days so the chickens have fresh grass bugs. The chickens are cage free and are free to roam around A-frame nesting
house or the bus itself on this beautiful farm that is over 170 acres!
Of course they choose to not wonder too far from the food (much like
myself) and huddle underneath the bus to keep cool.
Here's a photo of the big dog who watches over the chickens...in spite of being blind!
We have just switched to getting our eggs from Luke. We use these eggs in all of our pastries and cakes. They also are the source of the wonderfully golden yolks we use in our French style ice cream.
It's so nice to know where your food comes from. Isn't it?
It indeed is. And talk about free range - the bus and the farm!
